How do I put songs in my itunes library?

Do I click import or add file to media library? When I click import it lets me add files 1 at a time but I have over 4000 songs so isn't there a quicker way? It won't let me select more then 1 at the same time. When I click add files to media library it lets me highlight all of them but when I click open nothing happens. once you have all the songs highlighted just click and drag them into the music section of your library that should work.How do I put songs in my itunes library?
