How can I get my music FROM my iPod TO my iTunes library?

I have an iPod nano, but i just got a new Video ipod. When i went to transfer my music to my new iPod, only some of the songs transfered. I need to know how to transfer the songs from my old iPod to my iTunes library so i can put them on my new iPod. I don't want to have to use software, and I'm almost positive there's a way to do this without it. Help? How can I get my music FROM my iPod TO my iTunes library?
There's some software available of course. Otherwise, enable disk mode for your ipod. Connect to the computer, open the ipod drive under my computer. Make sure you have show hidden files and look for itunes and under there, there should be a music folder with various subfolders named as F00, F01, F02.... and so on.

Copy all this to your PC, import it into itunes. The only catch, not all song information gets imported, so some songs might appear as FDBK, JFGR and so on.How can I get my music FROM my iPod TO my iTunes library?
Assuming that you still have your music within Itunes on your computer, you just need to plug in the new ipod. When it syncs, all of the music and other things you have indicated to sync will go to your new Ipod.

I've done this twice now and it works fine. How can I get my music FROM my iPod TO my iTunes library?
go file, add folder to library...add the folders containing your music. Then connect the iPod to the computer and it will automatically update.

EDIT: surely if you just have a new iPod wont the music still be on the computer so you can just add it again to the library...
