What kinda trouble can you get in for not ever returning library books?

My sister borrowed a book from tha library about 2 months ago.Well she ups and decideds she's gunna keep it.Well smart one is moving out of town in a couple of weeks. (She says its a good book and she wants a copy for herself but doesnt want to pay for it.)wtf?!I dont know why she wants to.But will she get into troulbe?Any?What kinda trouble can you get in for not ever returning library books?
Nope. Nothing will really happen. I mean, the library will send a book due letter, but since she won't ever answer it, she has "stolen" the book
Well every library has different policies. The least harsh policy is that you aren't able to use your card again until you pay for the book. Some libraries will take you to court over unpaid bills. However, if you don't return the book and you move away, you can get a new library card and you can check out books again, as long as the new library isn't in your old library's system and you won't be fined at the new library either. What kinda trouble can you get in for not ever returning library books?
The libraries in most cities have limited funds and are usually the first departments hit during budget cuts. They do not have the time or recources to come after her for the book. If she moves to a different county they most likely will not pursure the issue over a book. She will not be able to check out books in the current county or any of thier partners until she returns the book and or pays a fine. So, no there most likely will not be any trouble for her. Yet, come on it is a book, she made an agreement with the library to check out a book and return it for free! She should read the book and give it back true to her word. Others have done the same and that is why the Libraries lose money, one book may not matter, but think about how many others have been inconsiderate, it adds up quick, who will buy the books to replace it? You will, yes you, Libraries are funded by taxes. So, your sister is having you pay for the book through your taxes. Enough people do this and they will close the library affecting others who are honest and may actually need the library to study or use for recreation. Tell her thank you.
I believe the biggest trouble you can get in is having to pay a fine for the book. Someone I know borrowed a book a couple months ago and asked me to return it, and when I did there was a 4 euro fee because it was so late. But I don't know about where you live...most likely she'll just have to pay some money. If she never takes it back I doubt they would go after her but she might not be able to borrow other books without either paying for it first or getting another one instead. What kinda trouble can you get in for not ever returning library books?
Tell her that its not even worth it to move she will just waste her money for like over 100,000$ and i SERIOUSLY do not think the book costs that much! lol, anyways, the library will track her down and keep calling, after a while passes a letter of notification willl be sent and they will keep looking for her and eventually find her and she will get a HUGE fee. Tell her to just buy the dang bok. Hope that helps and i meant no negativity :)
The library will have all your info about you phone# and address. Since it is over due they'll call your home and ask about it.

If you return the book, fines would be made.
If you are going to keep the book, then keep it forever. If you plan to return it, then do it quick. I returned a book my daughter had borrowed when she was six (she is fourteen, now) and I got hit with a $200 fine. But until I returned it there was no fine and no problem with my library card. Even the librarian said I would have been better off just keeping the book.
It depends on where you live.

Keeping a book from the library is stealing and you can be arrested and charged for same.

Hopefully you live in an area that prosecutes offenders. She would make a terrific example for those who have the same idea in mind.

People who have that kind of a sense of entitlement are precisely what is wrong with this country.
Well they're not gonna send her to juvi if that's what you mean, lmao. No she will not be put in solitary confinement, nor will they beat her with sticks until she gives up the book.

All you have to do is pay for it. done.

and how much are library books? like 5-10 dollars?

Dont worry about it.
Depending on state laws, she could end up with a nasty arrest warrant (meaning a criminal record if she's arrested and booked) This happened to someone recently, I read it in the news.

The library in my county uses a collection agency to deal with delinquent accounts. So even though people think "It's just a library what can they do?" they can and do come after people who steal or have excessive fines.
A woman by the name of Shelly Koontz was just arrested

within the last two weeks for the same reason.

Bad Karma is way worse than you could dream. Money won't fix bad Karma. Just learn to do the right thing. But, no one can do it for you.
The only way to really get in trouble is if she were to go back to that library. They'd make her pay the fine.

Though, it is still wrong.
She will definitely be fined for it. If she refuses to pay, she could go to jail. Of course, however, she will be allowed bail.
Huge fine, Bad reputation, Bailiffs and possible House reposession I would have thought.
You could be prosecuted, officially fined, end up with criminal record...

Drop it off at the library or post it to them after you leave...

Or just pay the library fine!

Tell her not to be such an 'irresponsible citizen' - what if some other person wants the book? What if everyone did what she plans to do?
The library can send a collection agency after her.
They give you the worst possible punishment...Life in jail...you better get your sister to return those books or the police will be after you!
They ca have your drivers license pulled and you could eventually get driving on suspended license and go to jail.
you hav 2 pay for a new copy of the book
She will have to pay fines and by this time she might as well buy the book from the libary!
She'll have to pay for it eventually, and it'll cost a lot more than a copy of the book would..
lol funny question my friend said they even went as far as charging it on his credit so whatever he did they saw he didnt retun a book for 30 years hes a older guy im only 18
Well she can't take any more books out of that library.
shes going to get a fine of how much the book costs. by mail.
get your library card taken away or if you lost it maybe a 2000 dollar fine.
its not your sister. its you.
if its a child book it doesnt matter but if its an adults book you get fined
She has to keep paying the fine.

Dr. Dog
Nahh it's only a book, they won't do anything about it.
